What is it?

Help us draw attention to misuse use of resources within the city of Norwich!

Anyone can report wasteful or ineffective use of energy by businesses and local authority. Contact our website or phone, tell us what is happening, and make recommendations for change.

We will contact the organisation and pass on suggestions and referrals.  When they make changes we will arrange positive publicity (press stories, awards, etc) about their responsiveness to community concerns.

Why?

This is an opportunity for residents to contribute to looking after limited resources.  After all, local authorities have asked for citizen involvement in decisions about efficiency savings. And local businesses want public support and publicity.

We propose to use our collective Transition expertise to make visible public concerns about efficiency and good business practice, encourage responsible behaviour, and offer personal support to move institutions along the 'readiness for change' continuum[

Some examples:

What is the problem?
What should be done?
Who is responsible?
Outside patio heaters are left on in freezing weather without any customers using them. (Waste of electricity)
Heaters should only be turned on when smokers request them and kept on only while they are using them.

Even better: Norwich Playhouse Bar offers patrons free lap blankets and hot water bottles to keep them warm outside, rather than petrol heaters
Macintoshes, Chapelfield
Watering lawns at midday in summer

(waste of water)
Water lawns in the early morning or evening so that the sprinkler water doesn't evaporate before reaching the grass roots.

Even better: reduce the amount of lawns

Local authority
Hot showers on sensors run for long periods without anyone using them

(waste of gas and water)

Shorten sensor timings or use push buttons
Sportspark, UEA
